The Vision

Camp Shawnigan’s $25 million transformation will create North America’s first year-round, purpose-built, multifunctional space for children, youth, and adults with physical and intellectual disabilities.

It will achieve the following goals:

  • Using Universal Design principles, the space will offer year-round access to recreation and education programs.
  • An inclusive, barrier-free experience from childhood to adulthood, while offering critical respite to families.
  • Create new opportunities through partnerships with other mission-aligned social profit organizations.
  • Lead the way to a new era of inclusivity in recreation and travel.
  • Generate new, reliable sources of revenue to subsidize program growth, operations, and maintenance.
  • Maximize the use of the asset through year-round use in service to our mission.

“This innovative, visionary project will deliver an exceptional, life-changing experience for children, youth and adults with disabilities while creating opportunities for leading edge research and education for industry professionals across all aspects of the project. To my knowledge, nothing this ambitious exists anywhere else in North America and possibly beyond. I commend Easter Seals BC & Yukon for their leadership in championing this most important project and believe it will lead the way to a new era of inclusion of people with disabilities, their families, and their friends.”

“Camp is the best place on earth. I love camp because it’s a place where I belong and where I feel accepted. Camp taught me no matter what if you have a disability and the challenges you have to face, don’t stop following your dreams.”
